Welfare and charity

Orphanages, homes, feeding programmes, scholarships of care, and everyday charity that is not a disaster response.

Welfare covers ongoing care rather than a one-off emergency: children’s homes, homes for older people, feeding programmes, prison and hospital visitation with a recorded scale, bursaries that are social support rather than ownership of a school, and food or cash assistance outside a declared disaster.

The useful distinction is the unit. “Families fed in one parish in one month” is not “children living in a home” and is not “naira spent.” Each needs its own entry, its own date, and its own source. A photograph of a food distribution is not a count.

Overlap with disaster relief is decided by the event. Flood response, displacement, and epidemic relief go under disaster relief. A weekly feeding programme that runs in ordinary time stays here. If a source mixes both, the entry should say so instead of inventing a split.

Churchlist does not treat generosity as a national total until someone publishes a method that can be checked.
